Autistically Scott

Scott is an Autistic Trainer, Mentor & Consultant based in Lanarkshire. They have several years of experience supporting Autistic people as well as delivering a variety of training sessions and presenting at conferences to numerous professionals and groups. Scott also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Autism. Additionally, they work with organisations such as AUsome Training and GROVE Neurodivergent Mentoring & Education. Scott is a co-author of Creating Safe Spaces for Autistic People and the children's book Gabby's Glimmers.

An introduction to Autistic experience that provides insight into Autistic communication, sensory needs, processing styles, amongst other aspects. It will help participants to develop neuro-affirming practices for supporting Autistic people. Attendees will also gain insight into Autistic-led theories and Autistic experiences through immersive activities.

Neurodivergent communication is multi-faceted and there are many ways we express ourselves. This session will showcase how communication is valid and not disordered or a deficit. In addition, it will provide potential adjustments and accommodations to enhance Neurodivergent people’s opportunities to communicate in the way they need to, thereby allowing them to advocate for themselves.

In this session there will be an overview of the numerous senses all humans being have and the ways this can present with Autistic people.

It will then explore how Autistic people’s sensory needs are influenced in various environments. Managing energy levels, understanding sensory profiles, and prioritising self-care will be some of the areas covered to help support the sensory needs of Autistic people.
